Experience with Kowa spotting scopes?

I'm looking for the best spotting scope I can find for under $1,000.  I realize this is a very tall order, and I'm not going to get anything great - but it's a start!  Here's what I'm looking at:

I've heard nothing but great things about these Kowa scopes - has anyone used them?

Any other alternatives I should consider?
