Nice. I'm pretty excited about this forum! A great way to be in touch with others throughout our great state about some of the opportunities available. Bonus: I get the first thread post . Use this thread to post up your successes for the year. Give a location (generic, don't give away your TSL's) and some specs of the critter if available! I've got nothing yet... so lets see your fishes, bears, turkeys, cats or wolves; whatever you've managed so far for 2013!

I agree with giving your location - perhaps which unit you were hunting. Nobody is expected to give away honey holes and GPS, but we are here to help each other. There are a whole lot of people out there who really don't know where to begin.

This spring has been especially brutal on my hunting success. Fishing has been incredible, but the hunting has been difficult - both spring turkey and bear. For turkey my 2 buddies and I all managed to tag a general season turkey - they got toms and I took a lowly jake after putting close to 25 mountain miles on our boots over 4 days in North Western Idaho. The bear hunting is still in progress - I've got 2 more hunting days available to me before the season closes on the 7th - I'll keep everyone updated on that one! Here are the photos of the turkeys! Very nice! Not sure how far north you came, but up in our area, the Turkeys are EVERYWHERE. They have tried trapping them and giving them away to other areas, but they're run out of places that will take them. A couple years back fish and game were doing "organized harvesting" where they would take groups of people out to try and thin flocks... outside of normal seasons! haha. Good luck with the bears, I've heard of a few down, but nothing huge in our area.

I was North of Boise a couple hours - next season we're thinking about venturing up towards Couer d'Alene

Well - I'm going to give this a bump with another catch from this year! Totally shameless. Here's my 2 new best steelhead - a 33" hatchery steelhead and a 36" wild steelhead, caught about 2 hours apart! Attachments:

In May I called in a lonely tom of modest size. He was the only guy in the area, and it took the third try to seal the deal. The first two days I called him in, but both times he approached in that one weak section of my set up. The third day I got him, but was a little disappointed in the outcome. I didn't have much time to set up, and ducked down in some trees under the lip of the field that I expected him to through to me. Sure enough, he came straight to my Primos Hot Box, late in the season with a little too much bravado for his own good. His head popped over the rise of the field, and my gun was beaded on him, but he stopped directly behind a wooden fence post that was between him and me. I stayed steady, ready to fire as soon as he stepped out. He began walking broadside to me and came out of the line of the fence post, and boom, it felt good to get the sneaky fella. However, I was shooting from an angle that was several feet lower than he was, and it blew the beard right off. Ticked me off. Put the pieces back together, and he had an 8" beard Nothing spectacular, obviously, but I would have preferred to go home with a beard in-tact. Beautiful fan that I've cured, and hope to mount this weekend. Everybody likes to hit turkeys early in the season when they are busy about their business. But I've learned that it's not too bad later in the season when they are lonely and looking for a little more.

Man, those are some nice steelies! Hopefully gonna make it down for some action this fall Turkey hunts like that do make me miss it a little.. haha, kinda got to not be much of a challenge around here for a while. Although I was more of a shoot the first decent bird kinda guy then. if in pushed more for trophy birds I'm sure it would bring the excitement back! my oldest is getting interested in going out more too and it would be great experience for him!

My wife downed her first buck last night! It was a great hunt. We got to watch some other bucks spar for a while before deciding to take this one. Very happy lady this morning for sure!

Congrats to your wife's first buck! I got a similar sized buck. I thought about doing the typical N. Idaho thing and waiting til later November to hunt in the rut, but I spotted this guy sunbathing in a wheat field about 1/2 mile away, and had to see if I could stalk up to him. Palouse hills wouldn't allow me to get within a couple hundred yards, so I took my time and went for the kill. He was at the top of a thick wooded canyon, and it was approaching dusk. I wanted to make sure my shot ensured I wasn't going to be tracing a blood trail with a flashlight, so please excuse the nasty exit wound here, but thought I'd share. A little carrot-top buck, but a dang big body. Never took him in to be weighed since I butchered myself. But I can tell you it was a fat son of a gun. I bet I carved off 50 lb. of thick tallow from his side walls!
