Anyone have any experience in the palisades unit? Wife has a moose tag for 67-1 so I am going to archery and possibly rifle hunt for elk/deer while her season is going. We are going to be in moose unit 67-1. That is the part that lies west of pine creek aka victor highway and north of the river. Going up this Sunday to do some moose scouting and hunting for elk and deer. I hope to get in a few good hunts in the unit and provide a write up at the end of my season wether victorious or not... Any ideas/info would be awesome.

Go to the top of Pine Creek Pass; there is a big parking area on the East side of the road. Then cross the road and start climbing up one of the trails that head west. You will have a steep uphill climb for awhile, but this will get you into some vantage points to look at the aspen draws below where elk hang out. I have elk hunted there, and have seen some very nice moose in that area. I also prefer to elk hunt the West side of the highway. It seems that the East side gets more pressure. Horse trails are all over the Palisades, and they work well for navigating the area, but they can be busy with mountain bikers, hikers, and horses anytime that the weather is nice - even throughout elk season. There are plenty of elk in that area, but obviously the warmer it is, the higher up they'll be. During the elk season, get off the horse trails, and head into the steep rugged country.
There are some pretty nice muleys in the Palisades, but they hide real well once the season starts.
Let me know if you have more questions.
