I hope that's because everybody is in the field. How are the bowhunters doing?

Scouting trip number two in the books. Getting colder over there, but still pretty quite deer wise. Saw a couple decent bulls, even this late into archery season, and pretty close to a road. A few smaller bucks and quite a few does and fawns. Leaving Sunday after church to head back over and get camp set up. Would love to get a little weather (not a TON, just enough) to move some bucks down. But I do have a pretty good plan... but the best laid plans..... oh well, at least it's a starting place.
Friends just got back from thier Idaho Archery Elk hunt. Both shot decent bulls (a 6x6 and a 5x6)... so at least someone I know got it done this year (one of them shot a 320 archery bull in Washington the week before). Now it is my turn, for a nice unit 18 Muley!
Good luck everyone. Take pictures!

Just got back in to town myself and will be out hunting most of next week. Headed down for steelhead in the morning and I'll post up a report on that afterwords.
A few buddies have takes some nice elk. One of them was archery and the elk was in the middle of a sparring session with another bull. Definitely a once in a lifetime kinda thing.

I am being spurned by the elk. Decided to really focus on Palouse Zone elk in a particular area, but they're herded up on some private property that doesn't allow hunting (of course). I have not given up though.
Got my whitetail buck down. A fun spot and stalk across wheat fields. Still have a doe tag in the pocket, along with bear, turkey, wolf...
So much to do... I haven't even hit up duck, pheasant, quail hunting yet.

Hunting Unit 8. I see so many elk in the canyons during the summer - and some really nice bulls - so I had to give it a concerted effort. Navigating private land is tough. I was really concentrating on elk, but like I said, I had a tag for just about everything in my pocket when I caught the 4x4 buck sunbathing half a mile away at the top of a draw in a wheat field. The antlers were of modest size - nothing to really brag about - but nothing to be ashamed of either. Big body. Lots of meat in the freezer now!
There are some nice areas in 8A too, and I think my chances would have been higher for elk if I had chosen to go there. But I decided to be persistent in 8.

Posting about it in the cast section now.
8A is typically better for elk. However there is some excellent land owned by the timber companies out white pine flats and out the east side of Moscow mtn south of potlatch through to hwy 9. Lots of elk in there every year.

Yes, I've been in those exact areas in Unit 8A in the past. Should have scouted and hunted them this year, as I may go skunked in Unit 8 (tomorrow I'll give it one last shot). I concentrated on Unit 8 for the challenge of it more than anything. There is a decent amount of elk in Unit 8, and I consistently found them through the Summer. The main challenge is that 8 is primarily private land, and I'm not talking timber company land. What I have found out is that even if you find land to hunt on that is prime elk habitat, the elk happen to know the particular landowners that do not allow any hunting whatsoever. It has been very frustrating to spend time elk hunting a good looking area, seeing nothing, and then on the drive home seeing herds of elk holed up on that no-access land.
I've learned a lot this year - mainly that 8A is a lot easier!

I definitely understand your frustrations having grown up there! I at least knew many of the locals and could hunt the farms around the area
