Pretty good read. Lots of experience in Brownlee and Diamond Creek. Have had the best luck in Diamond ck. Just get away from the road and you are in elk. Missed 2 opportunities on a 5 and 6 point bull one year. Saw a huge 7 point bull there as well-not good mass but width made up for it. Was a novice bowhunter and was not ready for bulls about 15 yards away. No experience with the other units but from my experience a good write up-just don't let the out of staters know it

Diamond Creek is like that. Great elk habitat there, and like you say, just get away from the road. A lot of guys have told me that the out-of-staters have ruined that area, and that there's not as many elk. But I disagree. I still think it's one of the best places in the state to hunt elk with a bow. You'll seal the deal there one of these times, just keep at it!

Yes it is. I have friends that say the Utahns ruined that unit but what I notice is that you have to put a couple miles on the boots. Really 2 miles up most any drainage and I run into elk. Granted I have not been in there in two years but I don't imagine it can change that quick. Plan on hunting there or palisades zone this year... Thanks! I agree still a great place for an awesome elk hunt in some great country.

Hunt Palisades! Not because I think it's better, but just because I've never gotten a report from somebody bowhunting the Palisades Zone

fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/wildlife/elkPlan/?GetPage=156 I found this link helpful. It gives the results from the 2012 Elk Hunter Survey Results. It gives the hunters perspectives of dozens of hunting related issues for each unit. How many elk seen, opportunities, overall experience, etc. I hope someone else finds it useful too.
